🧭 First-Time Visitor Checklist

Before you arrive in Aqaba, make sure you’ve got these basics covered:

Why Aqaba surprises people (in a good way)

Aqaba is Jordan’s only coastal city on the Red Sea. What surprises many first-time visitors is how easy it feels: calm, welcoming, and built around the sea, cafés, and local hospitality.

It’s also a perfect base for exploring more of Jordan—ancient history, dramatic deserts, and cultural depth are all within reach.

Entry, visas & arrival basics

Most visitors can obtain a visa on arrival, as long as their passport is valid for at least six months beyond their stay. Many travelers choose the Jordan Pass, which often saves time and money (especially if Petra is on your list).

Aqaba has its own airport, and transfers into town are usually quick and straightforward.

Weather & what to pack

Aqaba is mild in winter and warm most of the year. Days are often sunny; evenings can cool down, especially in winter months. The sea stays inviting, and snorkeling is possible year-round.

Jordan uses 220V electricity with Type C/F plugs, so bring adapters if needed.

Getting around & practical tips

Travel insurance is strongly recommended, especially if you plan to dive, snorkel, or explore the desert.

Culture & etiquette

Jordan is culturally conservative but very friendly and relaxed. A few simple guidelines:

What to do while you’re here

Most visitors love a mix of sea time and day trips:

Final word for first-time visitors

Aqaba isn’t a place to rush. Come prepared, stay curious, and give yourself a little flexibility. The more relaxed your pace, the more the place opens up—through the people, the sea, and the landscapes around you.
